Two Australian Army officers left the theatre of war and are now to appear in a different form of theatre. Steve Donald and Geoff Seis recently moved into the War Veteran’s Village in Narrabeen and have been recruited to appear in a production of ‘The Beggar’s Opera.’ Steve served in the army for 27 years including stints in Malaysia and Somalia and Geoff spent time during his 32 years of military service in Namibia and Iraq.
John Gay’s ‘The Beggar’s Opera’ was written in 1728 and is a satire about the low life of London at the time. Geoff plays a constable trying to control street urchins and prostitutes while Steve is honing his skills as a highwayman. FAMS Theatre Company are thrilled to have them on board – particularly to train the male chorus to look authentic when they head out ‘on the road’ to rob another coachload of innocent victims.
