Endangered Productions was so pleased that Robert Mitchell could be part of the cast for our 2023 production It's So Last Century  He played the troublesome vagrant in Carl Orff's 'Die Kluge' and a partygoer in 'Introductions and Goodbyes'.

With a professional singing career spanning 50 years, Dr Robert Mitchell is a veteran of over 5,200 performances in 120 operas.

Robert made his Opera Australia chorus debut at the opening of the Sydney Opera House in 1973 and performed a wide range of roles in operas including L’incoronazione di Poppea, The Eighth Wonder, Lulu, Carmen and Les contes d’Hoffmann.

His final performances with OA were as the Captain in the world premiere of Kate Miller-Heidke’s The Rabbits in Perth, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane (2015-16) and in the chorus of Parsifal in 2017.

Robert appeared as soloist for the Sydney and Mardi Gras Festivals, Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, Chamber Soloists of Sydney and the Warringah and Wollongong Symphonies.

In 2015 he commissioned and premiered Australian composer Gordon Kerry’s song cycle ‘Jean à Jean’ and currently sings in the Sydney Philharmonia Chamber Choir.

Robert holds a Diploma of Music Education, Master of Creative Arts (Wollongong) and PhD (Sydney) and has taught at Macquarie and Western Sydney Universities. He has led international opera tours and regularly lectures to music interest groups. For 30 years Robert was a trustee, and for 12 years chairman, of the OA Benevolent Fund. He is currently a committee member of the Wagner Society NSW and on the board of Operantics.
